It is really important that my constituents know this is their Parliament. I want to encourage as many people as possible to visit me in Westminster, not only to see this incredible building, but more importantly to see the democratic process at first hand, and learn about how they can get involved and make their voices heard.

If you are a constituent interested in visiting Parliament, please contact my office. My staff will be happy to organise a tour for you and if I am in London at the time I will always do my best to meet with you when you come.

Earlier this week I published the results of a survey of local council home care charges. This revealed that fewer older people are getting their care for free, and more older and disabled people have to pay more for vital services that help them get up, washed, dressed and fed.

Over the past three years, the average charge for an hour of home care has increased by 10%, from £12.29 to £13.61. There are wide disparities in the price people pay for care depending on where they live: whilst home care is free in Tower Hamlets, it costs £21.50 per hour in Brighton and Hove. The survey also found that 11% fewer older people had their home care fully paid for by their local authority last year than in 2009/10.

Whilst Leicester City Council’s charges for home care have increased from £11.25 to £12.42 per hour over the last year, they are still much lower than the national average. The number of older people getting their care fully paid for by the City Council has remained the same in 2011/2012 as in 2009/10, whereas elsewhere in the country there has been a significant decrease.

The results of my survey confirm that there is a growing care crisis in the country and I am calling on David Cameron to act urgently to tackle it.

If you are interested in learning more about this issue you can read the articles about the results of my survey published by the Guardian and BBC News under these links.

He ruled out a top-down re-organisation, promised to protect the front-line and halt closures of A&Es and maternity units. One by one, he’s broken all of his promises.

Patients are already paying the price for the Conservative and Liberal Democrat Government’s wasteful back-office NHS re-organisation, with thousands of nursing posts getting cut and waiting times on the rise.

My Labour colleagues and I fought hard in Westminster to get the Government to drop their risky plans, but they rammed them through despite the overwhelming opposition from us, the public and medical professions. Now we are determined to hold the Prime Minister to account for the extra strain he’s putting on the NHS and its staff. To do this, we need your help in telling us what’s happening on the front line.

That’s why we’ve launched NHS Check – a website where people can report to us the impact of David Cameron’s damaging changes and help us expose what’s really happening in the NHS.

Whether you have been a patient, you know a patient or you work in the NHS or other local care services – please click here to tell us about your experiences. Your input will help us hold the Government to account for their reckless actions, and to protect our NHS.
