Standing up for Carers

Carers

Friday 28th November was Carers Rights Day. To mark the occasion, I visited a carer’s event at the Curve Theatre, which was a great opportunity to highlight the huge contribution carers make and to raise awareness of the help and support that is available to them.

Many people don’t think themselves as being a carer – they’re just a son, daughter, husband or wife trying to look after the person they love. Too often, these carers end up paying a big price – they are twice as likely to suffer from poor health because of the stress and physical demands that caring brings.

It’s not right that people who do so much get so little in return. That’s why Labour is calling for a new duty on the NHS to identify carers, so they can get the information and support they deserve. If you’d like to find out more about what’s available in Leicester, I’d strongly encourage you to contact The Carers Centre Leicestershire and Rutland.
